Somewhere in the South Pacific...
A large aircraft carrier sat on the waters moving to an unknown destination. Though the carrier looked like a grim site, it was full of movement onboard as crew chiefs and teams ran around preparing one of the fighters for take off. One man stood alone, dressed in a white jump suit with red markings and carrying a large helmet. It was obvious that he was the pilot of the fighter that was about to take off and seemed to be oblivious to the action going on around him.
As one of the technicians motioned for him to move forward, Maverick brushed back his dark brown hair and nodded as he went over to the Head Technician. "She's all ready for you, and you'd better take care of her." He said with a small frown as Maverick handed him his helmet. "Yeah, yeah. I got it. So what's she equipped with?" he asked as another pair of technicians brought a ladder beside him so that he could climb into the thingypit. "We've fitted her with a FAST pack and Fold Booster system. Believe me wherever you need to go, you'll be getting there in record time."
Maverick grinned as he patted the chief on the shoulder, "It looks like I've got the need..." The Tech returned the grin and patted Mav on the shoulder. "The NEED FOR SPEED!" they said together and laughed as Maverick climbed the ladder and hopped into the thingypit. Strapping himself in, Mav nodded to the Tech who threw him his helmet. Catching it, Maverick put it on as the fighter came to life and began moving forward to the launch pad as one of the Guides lead him forward. Coming to a halt, Maverick strapped his helmet and put on his mask as he hit a button on his helmet which lowered the eye cover as the moniters came to life and reflected off the shiny surface.
Gripping the control stick and the the thrust lever, He watched as the guide motioned for the burner pads to rise forward so that he didn't hit the crew with the thrusters. Taking a deep breath, Maverick began to increase the thrust as the guide moved to the side of his Fighter and knelt down. Bringing his hand down to the ground and then pointing to the sea, Maverick nodded at the 'GO' sign as the restraints on the wheels were loosened and he raced forward.
Coming to the end of the ship, Maverick's fighter flew off of the ship and went down as if it where about to hit the water before the thrusters kicked in and drove him forward. Grinning, he increased the thrust as the ship sped upward towards space.

ORB Forces Defense HQ- (16:16, 2 min till takeoff)
"Your mission is to investigate an unknown mech that has just launched into space." Sakurazaki read this from a file that she held in her hand, while walking down the busy corridors of the ORB Def. HQ. "It launched at about 16:10, your unit, the Akatsuki is to eliminate the mech if deemed dangerous. You are to launch at 16:18."
Upon reading this, she stopped in front of two large metal doors, they signified the entrance into the ORB Hangar Bay. "Well...if that is what they command, then that is what I will do." The doors opened before her with a swoosh, and Sakurazaki was immediately surrounded by the atmosphere of the busy hangar. All around her, mechanics and other crew members rushed back and forth yelling orders to each other. Announcements came every so often and echoed off the hanger walls, making everyone rush even faster. Up ahead to her right was the Akatsuki, the golden mech was in a sitting position and awaited the arrival of its pilot.
Sakurazaki noticed the lift cable that hung near the Akatsuki's arm, as well as the black and red helmet that had matched the crash suit that she now adorned. "Thoughtful as ever," she noted. With that she quickly clambered into the Akatsuki and powered it up, the acronym GUNDAM flashed across the screen before the familiar voice of the mech guidance system started. "ORB-01 Akatsuki, systems normal. Launch request accepted, launch time: 16:18"
The gundam crouched into position, as powerful propulsion systems installed in the headquarters readied itself for the Akatsuki's launch. The interface screen on her dashboard flashed once, the words "GO" flashed upon it.
"Sakurazaki Rei, Akatsuki, Launching!"
The thrusters activated themselves and propelled her out from the hangar bay and onward to the deep abyss of space.

With a flash of light, Maverick came out of the fold and began to check his monitors for his location. "Okay, I've pulled out by the moon. Apparently this is where all those reports of mobile suit attacks are from." he told himself as he looked outside of his cockpit to the bright moon beside him.
Disengaging the fold boosters, he increased the thrust and sped away. "Let's see if I can find out where this mysterious mech is?" he asked aloud as he checked the monitor to see if there was anything in the immediate area.

Soon Sakurazaki was in space, she felt herself relax a bit as she took in the scenery but was quickly reminded of what she was there to do when her screen lit up again, this time a red dot appeared. "It's the mech..." And by the looks of it it's close by the moon....I should let it make the first move. To see if it is foe or friend that is... Sakurazaki eased the gundam forward slightly, soon the "enemy" mech came into view. It was something that she had never seen before. "What kind of gundam is that??"

With a loud bleep, a red target appeared on his monitor to his left. Bringing his left wing upward, Maverick turned to look at the approaching mobile suit. It wasn't a suit which he was accustomed too which made him pause as he spun to the left and pulled a tight loop so that he now faced the approaching mobile suit.
Opening up the Public channel, Maverick hailed the mech. "This is Maverick of the U.N. Space Forces. Identify yourself or be shot down, repeat. Identify yourself now."

U.N. Space Forces? The only ones that Sakurazaki had heard of were the ZAFT and Earth Alliance, and ORB of course. But it wouldn't hurt to try to negotiate. In a time of war, it wouldn't hurt to try. Quickly switching channels to the public channel she announced herself, "My name is Sakurazaki and I side with the ORB forces. What business do you have here, Maverick?" Her hand rested lightly upon her controls, but she was ready to fire at a moments notice, her mind already calculating various trajectories, tactics, and possible specs of the mysterious unit.

Maverick paused as he heard the feminine voice on the other side of the channel, it wasn't every day that he encountered female pilots. Especially those whom piloted with the Orb. Opening his channel again, Maverick responded to her. "I'm searching for a mobile suit that has been attacking ships that hail from the U.N."
Pausing, he thought about the Orb pilot for a minute before continuing. "What's an Orb Pilot doing around U.N. space? I was under the impression no one would be traveling out here today." Pulling back on his thrusters, Maverick slowed down but held his hand ready to increase his speed once again. "Why are you here?"

....This guy is ticking me off. But yet she knew it was a fully valid question. Sakurazaki calmly spoke again. "I'm supposed to destroy a mech who had wandered here, provided that I ascertain who it is sided with. I don't know anything about this organization or whatever you side with or even your situation at the present. But I'm afraid that if you don't back off now, I may have to destroy you." In a fluid movement, the Akatsuki drew its Type 73J2 prototype twin beam saber from a compartment and activated it. The red blades that adorned either side hummed with energy. "And I am serious. This is your final warning."

Maverick sighed loudly over the comm channel, "Well I'm sorry to say that I can't and suppose that presents a problem." He said as he closed his eyes for a minute. "I'm sorry to do this but you're in U.N. Territory and are violating air space. You've left me no choice but put too remove you forcibly." Opening his eyes, Maverick gradually increased his thrust as he performed a loop-the-loop.
Coming down, he increased his thrusts to mach one as he approached the Orb pilot Sakurazaki and fired a warning shot at her as he flew by with amazing speed.

"Whoa...He's fast." She quickly raised her shield to deflect the warning shot. This'll prove a problem. Wielding her beam saber would be the best bet, unless she could possibly somehow hit the unit with a long range missile or beam with the Akatsuki's Hyakurai beam rifle. "Tch. Just my luck. I can't just sit here either." I'll keep defending till I can figure out his fighting strat....Kinda sucks though. I'm at a disadvantage.

As soon as he got a few meters away from Sakurazai, Maverick grinned as he pulled a U-turn and grinned. Increasing his thrusters, he moved moved his fighter around in a small climb and fall as he approached her again. Tightening up his movement, Maverick began to spin until he was pulling off a barrel roll and began firing his guns at her as he got closer and closer.
As soon as he got within a few meters from her, he slowed down his turning and performed a strong turn to the left as he went into a tight barrel roll and fired a cluster of micro-missles at her from short-range as he continued to speed on by. Switching to GERWALK mode, he spun around and turned sharply to the right as he flew backwards, facing her, firing his gunpod at Sakurazaki as he continued to fly backwards and away from her.

Sakurazaki raised Akatsuki's shield to deflect, but reeled back as she realized that they were missiles, and they bombarded her shield. The Akatsuki flew back a couple of yards from recoil and unexpected move. The sheild had been wrenched away from the Akatsuki's hands and lay floating a few yards ahead. Several forms I see. Makes this even harder. -_-' The Akatsuki had a great defensive, but it would be hard to attack at this point. Surrounding could be an option. Rei's mind was at work, contemplating the different ways to counter. The DRAGOONs could prove useful. But for now it was best to make a move, to test the water. Sakurazaki edged the Akatsuki at medium speed, taking out Hyakurai and waiting to see if there was any openings, if any on Maverick's mech.

Keeping to Gerwalk mode despite the speed, Maverick continued to fire with his gunpod as he fired a round of missiles at Sakurazaki. As he fired, he looked down at his monitor as he began the readout on her mech. It would take awhile, but he'd get the readouts and hopefully formulate a better strategy then this hit-and-run tactic.
Looking back up, he continued to fly backwards before using his thrusters to weave around in a figure-8 as he continued firing his missiles and gunpod at her. It wouldn't do him any good to be a sitting target out here, if it's one thing he had learned...It's that targets who stick to a straight line end up dead three seconds later.

Sakurazaki managed to regain the Akatsuki and noticed the barrage of missiles coming towards her. Putting thrusters at maximum the Akatsuki weaved and dodged, narrowly missing many of the shots that Maverick fired. Retrieving its shield the Akatsuki started towards Maverick, using weaving from left to right, up to down, and so on, to mask where she was coming from. All the while, the Hyakurai was trying to stay trained on Maverick's mech.

Maverick grinned as Sakurazaki suddenly began to move forward, keeping his weaving motion in the form of a figure-8 as he moved away from her, he continued to fire his Gatling-gun pod at her as he suddenly noticed that he was running low on ammo. "CRAP!" he yelled as he hit the empty meter. Cursing the timing, Mav ejected the clip quickly as he fired two more barrages of missles.
Reaching inside his shield, Maverick grabbed a magazine and began to reload his gunpod quickly, hoping that she would be preoccupied with the missiles.

Sakurazaki sped forward, and aimed the Hyakurai at Maverick, while activating the mind controlled DRAGOONS to form a polygon shield to deflect the incoming bullets. Thrusters at full Sakurazaki continued to speed towards Maverick, concentrating her focus on aiming correctly. Then, she fired.

Maverick's eyes widened as the beam attack came towards him as he finished loading his gun pod. "AHHH!!" he yelled as he hit one of the panels in his cockpit and activated the Pin-point barrier system on his veritech.
As the beam hit him, the veritech shook from the force of the beam and he clenched his eyes as he was pushed back slightly. Opening his eyes, he saw the beam hitting the barrier and then reflected back at Sakurazaki.

Sakurazaki continued forward and the beam bounced off of the polygon shield and her gundam's special "Yata-no-Kagami" anti-beam defensive reflection system (armor coating). She continued full power and rammed straight into Maverick's mech, using the shield to protect from damaging her mech too much and delivering more force and g into the hit.

Maverick cursed as Sakurazaki's mobile suit rammed into him and he began to be pushed backwards. Gritting his teeth from amount of damage his YF-19 was taking, Maverick pushed tried to push against the field as brought his legs up and switched to Battaroid mode and pushing the thrusters to max as they fired at the shield and propelled him away.
Switching to GERWALK mode and then back into Fighter mode, Maverick sped away as he hit a button on his control stick which brought up the turret on the top of his Fighter and fired at the Mobile Suit behind him as he flew away.

Sakurazaki smirked. This guy was pretty good. The Akatsuki rebounded a couple of them before the polygon shield powered down. It was best to save energy at this point, relying on the shield too much wouldn't be a good idea. Several laser beams from the turrets bounced off of the Akatsuki's armor coating. Some of the turrets beams hit the mech and damaged it. The mech's display system beeped everytime it got hit. "...." But Maverick's mech was still too far away to do anything yet. The Hyakurai rifle could work, but most likely it'd miss. That and it'd most likely reflect off of the mech. The Akatsuki took this time to retrieve its shield, which had been floating several meters away.
